James Jones improves JJI-Joists

Q-Mark

James Jones & Sons Ltd. ‑ Timber Systems Division, the largest domestic producer of I‑joists in the UK, has been awarded a Q Mark from TRADA for significantly increased engineering properties in their JJI‑Joist product portfolio. Improvements in James Jones's raw material sourcing and better utilisation of this raw material, yielding timber which is comparable with C30 grade, have resulted in major advances in JJI‑Joist strength and stiffness. These improvements are further enhanced by the company's decision to increase the "A" and "B" flange widths of the joists by 2mm and 3mm respectively, creating A+ and B+ width products.

General Manager Mr. Brian Robertson explained: "While the overall improvements differ across product depths and flange widths, we are achieving enhancements of up to 35% in stiffness and span improvements of up to 254mm at 600mm centres and 355mm at 300 centres."
